Where are interest rates heading? www.legacyannuities.com

MAY 18 2004

Below please find the opinion of various financial professionals.

EXPERTS' COMMENTS:
"Worry, worry, worry. Until emotions (and the price of oil) calm down, rates are most likely headed higher."
-- Jason P. Flurry, CFP, LPL Financial, Planmark Capital Management, LLC, Alpharetta, Ga.
Short-term: Up
Long-term: Up

"Remember the investment adage, "The trend is your friend." Rates have been edging upward and, I suspect, will continue in that same general direction for some time to come. However, with that being said, it would be reasonable to see rates slip slightly this week as money shifts out of stocks to safer investments. The markets have been quite edgy as of late, but do not let their schizophrenic nature shake you; the direction for rates is upward. My advice to most individual investors: Stay short-term and capture a higher yield later this fall."
-- Barry Vosler, CFP, LPL Financial -- Wealth Management Group, DeWitt, Iowa

BANKRATE'S ANALYSTS:
"With the first rate hike now expected at the end of June, even short-term CDs will show some improvement while longer maturity CDs continue the strong rebound."
-- Greg McBride, CFA, senior financial analyst, Bankrate.com

Long-term: Up

"The short-term CD yields have either been stagnant or rising by a basis point every few weeks. Longer-term yields are improving at a much more perceptible pace, but they're still not worth tying up your money."
-- Laura Bruce, savings writer, Bankrate.com

Long-term: Up
